Spices, a healthy lifestyle, and autoimmune survivors. Who has thought that these things are linked and will arise, riveting further attention? Besides being seasoning and trading commodities, spices keep a myriad of benefits, including for health. For instance, spices can be a medicine and food that the autoimmune survivors can consume.
As time went by, people’s lifestyles changed. Whether we realize it or not, lifestyle can eventually be one of the disease factors. Autoimmune becomes a disease that many doctors suggest to have an increased case. To this day, doctors have not yet discovered the cause and medicine. However, environment, genetics, and lifestyle are believed to be some of the factors.
Autoimmune is an abnormality in the immune system that attacks our bodies; it is commonly called immune error. In normal body conditions, the immune system protects our bodies from bacteria, viruses, or strange things that enter our bodies. However, it does not work in autoimmune cases.
Autoimmune can attack the whole organs; thus, more than 100 diseases have been detected. The most common diseases are lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, hemolytic anemia, multiple sclerosis, etc. Therefore, doctors from various disciplines are needed to handle and prevent the disease from endangering the patients.
Although the medicine has yet to be found, it does not mean that autoimmune survivors cannot live normally. Prof. Dr. dr. Iris Rengganis, Sp.PD-KAI stated that autoimmune survivors can live normally by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, getting enough rest, consuming healthy foods with balanced nutrients, avoiding stress, taking medicine as the doctor’s recommendation, and living positively.
For autoimmune survivors, living a natural life, started from food, is very important, for 80% of our immune system is located in the digestive tract. Therefore, consuming low-calorie foods, low in antigenic substances, and high in anti-inflammatory substances, will help control the disease.
In addition to rotating staple foods (rice, sweet potato, cassava), applying spices as flavoring, coloring, seasoning, and preservatives are also recommended for autoimmune survivors. Spices around us are rich in anti-inflammatory substances that are good to consume. Therefore, various kinds of spices in Indonesia can help control the disease so that the survivors can live normal activities.
