The history of spices from Nusantara have become a highly valued commodity for centuries. The spices were distributed and then traded from many islands in Nusantara to numerous places across the world. Aside from attracting the foreign sailors to moor their vessel in Nusantara, the taste of spices managed to create cultural traces we know as the Spice Routes.

Today, we can see the traces of the spices trade through the tangible and intangible cultural heritage in Indonesia. The Spice Routes has become evidence that history of spices acted more than merely as a commodity. It has contributed to the development of world civilization and become the breath of Indonesian maritime culture.

Here are the Spice Routes. Becoming a program, collectively planned as UNESCO World Heritage nomination, the Spice Routes keeps the traces of national wealth in the past to be excavated and reconstructed continuously.
