Indonesia’s diversity of tribes, religions, cultures, and languages didn’t just appear. They arose through a long history of human encounters among nations, involving the exchanges. As a commodity, spices became the diva in the past that connected humans and left traces to our civilization until today.

Jakarta, Banten, and Cirebon were three among many significant knots in Nusantara where the exchanges of cultures, knowledge, religions, and languages through spice trades occurred. The spice trades invited many local and global explorers to visit these three cities to get the heavenly-scent-herbs. Today, we can still track down the trace of trades in these three cities.

Let’s trace back what the Spice Routes left for us in Jakarta, Banten, and Cirebon with travel and lifestyle influencers Helena Chintya (@ellchintya), Bobi Candra (@bibobns), and Rian Budi Santoso (@rianbudisantoso), and follow them tracing the Spice Routes’ points in the cities.
