Spices and Fitness Enhancement

Abstrak

Secara khusus artikel ini menyoroti kontribusi budaya rempah dalam membangun imunitas dan kebugaran tubuh, khususnya pada masyarakat yang harus berjuang menghadapi pandemi Covid-19. Masyarakat yang membutuhkan peningkatan imunitas meski dalam kondisi keterbatasan ekonomi akibat pandemi, pada akhirnya memilih rempah sebagai pilihan dalam meningkatkan imunitas. Selain karena manfaatnya, rempah juga telah menjadi bagian penting dari keseharian kehidupan dan budaya masyarakat, juga mudah didapat dengan harga bersahabat. Dalam studi antropologi diuraikan perihal siklus hidup manusia yang tidak dapat dilepaskan dari rempah, mulai dari awal kehidupan hingga kematian. Ditemukan berbagai cerita kekuatan kearifan lokal komunitas dalam membangun ketangguhan dalam meningkatkan imunitas dan kebugaran melalui pemanfaatan rempah, yang sekaligus juga memiliki nilai tambah ekonomi. Rempah memberi dan merawat kehidupan, membawa keberkahan bagi petani, pedagang pasar, pengelola jamu, hingga konsumen. Pandemi Covid-19 memberi kesadaran baru untuk merawat memori kolektif kejayaan rempah Indonesia di mata dunia, sekaligus memanfaatkan peluang perubahan gaya hidup masa kini yang membawa nilai-nilai dan filosofi tentang healthy life, go green, dan juga back to nature. Kejayaan rempah digaungkan kembali untuk tujuan peningkatan kebugaran, yang disesuaikan dengan selera kekinian dan dapat disinergikan dengan pengembangan industri kreatif berbasis budaya, dengan kata kunci penting yakni “keberpihakan dan penghargaan pada lokalitas”.

Abstract

This article highlights spice culture's contribution to building immunity and physical fitness, especially among people who struggle to face the Covid-19 pandemic. People who need to boost their immunity amidst the economic limitations due to the pandemic eventually choose spices as an option to increase their immunity. Aside from the benefits, spices have also played an essential role in people's daily life and culture, and it is easy to get at an affordable price. An anthropology study stated the life cycle of human beings that cannot be separated with spices, from the beginning until the end of life. There were various stories about the community's local wisdom in building the toughness to increase immunity and fitness through the use of spices, which also has an economic value-added. Spices give and take care of life, bringing blessings to the farmers, market traders, jamu makers, and consumers. The Covid-19 pandemic gave a new consciousness to keep the collective memory of the glory of Indonesian spices in the eyes of the world, as well as to take advantage of the opportunity of the current lifestyle-changing that brings values and philosophy about healthy life, go green, and also back to nature. The glory of spices is echoed again, aiming to enhance fitness according to current trend and can be synergized with the development of creative industry based on culture, with a vital keyword, "partiality and appreciation towards the locality".
