Abstract

Various European records describe Banda Islands as a prominent place to produce nutmeg and mace. However, like two sides of a coin, this heavenly fruit was like a blessing which brought disaster for the Bandanese. The research aims to reconstruct the historical narration of the spice trade, colonialism, and the massacre tragedy in Banda Islands within the scope of history combined with archaeological and geographical approaches. It aims to dig deeper and strengthen the significant position of the Banda Islands in the scope of Spice Routes. The data used include archives, interview results, books, magazines, newspapers, and ancient maps and satellites with the Geographic Information System (GIS). In the final section, the spice museum is also elaborated as a recommendation in the development of the area-based archaeological remains management in the Banda Islands.
