Bir Kotjok is one of the traditional drinks from Bogor. Just like bir pletok, bir kotjok doesn’t contain alcohol. Bir kotjok is made of several natural ingredients rich in spices, such as ginger, cinnamon, clove, and palm sugar.

The ginger that is used in the making of bir kotjok is red ginger. Red ginger has a health advantage for blood circulation. In addition, it is spicier and warmer compared to common ginger.

The drink was started to be sold in Bogor street using a cart in the middle of the 20th century. Most of bir kotjok sellers are hereditary business heirs.

Bir kotjok can be drunk warm or cold. The warm sensation from the ginger, although served with ice, makes bir kotjok a perfect drink for the Rain City.
